Chipotle Mexican Grill will test five new menu items including quesadillas, nachos and avocado tostadas, in a shift away from its signature simple menu. The chain will launch the new dishes at its NEXT test kitchen first, and slowly roll them out in a strategy designed not to slow the assembly line.
Lawmakers in the US House Thursday passed legislation that makes significant changes to food and agriculture programs, including new work requirements for those receiving food stamps and changes to farm subsidies. Under the bill, the Department of Agriculture also would be required to re-evaluate federal school nutrition rules that were enacted under President Barack Obama's administration.
Millstone Capital Advisors has bought fast-casual vegan restaurant chain Native Foods Cafe for an undisclosed amount. Chicago-based Native Foods was founded in 1994 in Palm Springs, Calif., and today has 13 units in four states.

Registered dietitian Kristin Kirkpatrick writes that the eating disorder orthorexia nervosa has evolved over the past two decades to encompass obsessive traits attributed to healthy eating, such as becoming fixated on the purity of foods. Kirkpatrick notes that orthorexia nervosa is different from other eating disorders because it does not include an obsession about body image or secretive behaviors.
Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello wants to close 265 of the US territory's schools. Many parents and advocates say the government did not consider school transportation issues as well as how the closures would affect communities, and a judge has temporarily blocked the closure of some schools.
Students are growing fruits and vegetables in an on-campus garden at a Kansas middle school and selling their harvests at local stores and farmers markets. The funds from their sales help to support the school garden program.
